Maximizing Social Security
We hold approximately two live (in the Washington DC area) and one virtual seminar about Social Security every month via the nonprofit organization known as AFES (Adult Financial Education Services).
For many Americans, Social Security is the single largest asset they have in retirement, and greater than 90% of all recipients do not maximize their Social Security benefits. Advance planning is essential and the decisions you make today can have a tremendous impact on the total amount of benefits you stand to receive over your lifetime.
This educational workshop will provide you with much needed information to help you understand the system, coordinate spousal and survivor benefits, minimize taxes, and maximize your personal benefits. Whether you’re single, married, divorced, or widowed, there may be ways to maximize the lifetime Social Security benefits you receive.
One of the most important decisions you need to make before you retire is when and how to claim Social Security benefits. About half of retirees apply for Social Security as soon as they become eligible at age 62, but by doing so, they may significantly and permanently impact their income and benefits for the rest of their lives. The difference between the best and worst possible decision of when to start Social Security can be over $180,000!
Medicare 101
Watch for our new virtual-only webinar about Medicare coming soon!
You must sign up for Medicare within the period from three months prior to three months after you turn 65. Learn the difference between Parts A, B, C and D, and what your choices are. Learn what Medicare covers, and what it doesn’t cover—like long-term care, co-pays, deductibles—as well as monthly premiums which are deducted from Social Security.
Understand why pre-planning before age 65 is so important, because depending on your income from two years prior, you could pay hundreds of dollars more for Medicare premiums every month. Those in the highest brackets (couples filing jointly with modified adjusted gross income of $750,000 or higher in 2023) now pay almost $630 per month per person for Medicare premiums in 2025.
